Come and learn a language at the very first CERAN centre established more than 30 years ago!

Built in 1908, the Château du Haut-Neubois started out as a holiday retreat for the Peltzer family (a powerful dynasty from the wool industry in Verviers, Belgium). Magnificently furnished and decorated, it came to life in the high season as a symbol of Spa, a town where crowned heads of state, illustrious personalities, members of the nobility and the upper classes would gather. In 1918, during the First World War, the Château du Haut-Neubois was requisitioned by Kaiser William II so that he could receive his distinguished guests and key officers there. The Peltzer family again took up occupation following the war and the site was split up and sold in 1955 to the Association de l'Abbé Froidure. The Château du Haut-Neubois was renamed "Les Petits Sapins des Ardennes" and given a social role. It housed disadvantaged children and became a guidance centre and open house.

In February 1984, the CERAN Group acquired the Haut-Neubois site with a view to expanding its activities and organising intensive residential courses there in various languages. Nic Nelissen, Château du Haut Neubois, 1933
The Château du Haut-Neubois has always been a place of welcome and a place to stay. Having been a summer meeting point for members of the Peltzer family and their guests, and a temporary home for numerous disadvantaged children, it now opens it doors to men and women from the four corners of the globe who come to learn a foreign language here. Its role is as a resting place, a meeting place, a place of exchange, dialogue, discovery, enjoyment - and a window on the world.

In August and September 2008, during the festivities to commemorate 100 years of the Château du Haut Neubois, an exhibition organised by the non-profit making organisation "Collections et Patrimoines" and inaugurated by Minister Marcourt, traced back the Château's entire history from its construction in 1908 through to today. The non-profit making organisation "Collections & Patrimoines" organised, along with other events in Brussels, the "Made in Belgium" exhibition in 2005, and the "Leonardo da Vinci" exhibition in 2007.
