The town was founded in 914 by Ethelfleda, sister of Edward the Elder, as a defence against the Danes Within a relatively small area there are many buildings of historic interest, including the very grand Warwick Castle and the Lord Leycester Hospital. Visiting Warwick is a friendly and a memorable experience with something for everyone. |

6.5 miles (10.5 kilometres) A taxi ride away. Set in the beautiful rural Warwickshire countryside, on the banks of the river Avon, it is one of the most important tourist destinations in the UK. Go and wander through Shakespeare's hometown, visit Shakespeare's houses and the beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon with its parks and gardens. Whether you fancy afternoon tea, a pub lunch or a classic cuisine there are a wealth of eating places within and around Stratford. The town has a very rich and varied programme of events and activities throughout the year.
